1. Applications of “precast concrete components”

Currently, high-quality concrete with strengths from 70MPa is widely used in the production of precast concrete components. In Vietnam today, many projects and plants have produced concrete with strengths of 50-60 MPa for in-situ concrete, and 70 MPa for precast concrete components, specifically applied to precast concrete components for civil construction, bridges and infrastructure projects.

• Residential Construction

High-rise residential construction projects are completed in a shorter timeframe when using precast, prestressed concrete components. In these projects, the foundation uses precast, centrifugally spun prestressed piles. The pile foundation system is connected by in-situ concrete beams.

For large structural systems, the concrete frame will bear the main load, this concrete frame including columns and beams precast from high-strength concrete. At column connection points, high-strength grout is used to fill the connection areas. At beam connection points, high-quality self-compacting concrete is used.

In apartment building projects, floors and staircases are also precast. Apartment floors are typically constructed in two layers: the first layer is a precast slab approximately 6cm thick, followed by a second layer approximately 5cm thick, constructed in-situ with fiber reinforcement.

• Bridge and Infrastructure Construction

In bridge construction, bridge girder structures are often precast using high-strength, prestressed concrete. Subsequently, the girder components are launched onto the bridge piers. To increase the stability of the precast girder components, transverse beams using in-situ concrete connect the longitudinal precast girder components together.

The bridge foundation is reinforced with precast, centrifugally spun prestressed piles. The bridge deck is constructed in two layers: the first layer is precast concrete 12.5cm thick, and the second layer is reinforced concrete cast in-situ, also 12.5cm thick. Reinforcement in the second layer of the deck (16 bars depending on the bridge’s design load) is placed according to the primary load-bearing direction. After the load-bearing precast concrete components are erected, the remaining non-load-bearing work (finishing the deck surface, installing lighting, etc.) continues until project completion.
